Walking meditation
Attention and awareness with every step
Kasper Meulesteen
Many people know meditation primarily as an activity in which you sit still on a cushion. But meditation has many forms, including movement. Walking meditation, an age-old practice in Buddhist traditions, offers a way to integrate attention and awareness with every step you take. In this workshop, we will delve into the depths of this special form of meditation together.
The workshop will start with an introduction with background information on how walking meditation is practiced in different Buddhist traditions and how this can be translated to our daily activities. Then we will practice walking meditation ourselves twice, each time anchoring our attention in our body and/or the environment. We will conclude with a moment of reflection, in which we share our experiences.
This workshop is an opportunity to familiarize yourself with walking meditation, or to deepen your existing practice. Kasper Meulesteen, spiritual counselor and experienced in walking meditation, will guide us. Kasper wrote his thesis on Buddhist walking meditation and will share his knowledge and experience in an accessible and inspiring way.
Whether you are new to meditation or have been practicing for a while, this day offers a space to calm down, slow down and explore what happens when you move with mindfulness and gentleness.
'Walking meditation helps us understand that movement and stillness can exist in harmony. It teaches us not to be attached to sitting still, but to take the friendly mind with us everywhere'
