Mindful aging
'Getting old ain't for the faint of heart'
Franca Warmenhoven
There is no escaping it... We are all getting older. As a child we probably enjoyed getting older because you are allowed and able to do more when you are older. But somewhere along the way we seem to lose the joy of growing older and perhaps grow older 'willy-nilly'.
Growing older is no small matter. Socially, there are quite a few stereotypical images about 'being old'. As you get older, you take a different place in society. In addition, the body also ages. Maybe you are less fit or there are limitations of the body that you did not have before. Growing older can also be accompanied by loss: in addition to the loss of a young and healthy body, there are inevitably more experiences of loss as we get older, for example from people or animals around us, from our work or our role in life.
But the process of aging is also fascinating. It is said: 'Wisdom comes with age'. But how can we fully experience the richness and wisdom of being a parent?
I personally experience growing older as confrontational and inspiring. Consciously dealing with growing older means that I also have to relate to the finitude of all things, including life. And that in turn makes me think about what is really important to me. Consciously aging gives you the opportunity to slow down, reflect and grow with who you will become.
If you would like to explore this together with others through meditation, reflection and exchanges, please feel cordially invited to this live course!
You can register if you answer the following questions in the affirmative:
- Are you through 30NOW, or through other means, familiar with the basic practice of mindfulness/meditation?
- Do you feel the need to reflect on the theme of growing older?
- Do you feel touched by what you encounter in the process of growing older and the challenges this entails? Are you wondering how to deal with that?
- Are you willing to do exercises to investigate where you stand in the process of aging and what you can experience in it?
- Are you physically, emotionally and mentally capable enough to participate in a six-week online course?
- Are you prepared to contribute to a safe atmosphere of respect and confidentiality for your fellow students and yourself?
- In addition to following the weekly lectures and live sessions, can you free up an average of 30 minutes a day for exercises?
This online Live course lasts six weeks with themes and exercises that connect with each other.

- suggestions for individual practice and reflection.
During the course you can share experiences with group members and the supervisor via the website.

Live session dates
In the live sessions we can delve deeper into the theme offered together. By connecting with each other in research, we can learn new perspectives and also see our own perspective clearly.
The live sessions always start with a guided meditation, followed by a review of the theme and exercises of the past week. We then start working on the new theme, exploring the theme in an interpersonal exercise (pairs or threes) in break-out rooms. After this exercise, there will be the opportunity to exchange experiences in plenary and the exercises for the coming week will be explained. The meeting ends with a short exercise.
