Bay Hagebeek (1972) is an entrepreneur, owner of care and coaching organization ZinVol lived, parent of two children, punk rocker, expert in gender transition and trained as a meditation facilitator.
The conversation is about life in the punk scene and the first tricky steps on the meditation path. Bay later became acquainted with the American punk sangha Against the stream by Noah Levine. When it fell apart due to unethical behavior by some teachers, the bed fell away. 'A traumatic experience'.
Bay is also an expert in gender transition. 'During a stay in the US I was lying in bed and then I realized: I don't really feel like a woman at all'. This experience leads to a search for gender identity. 'I move towards the masculine. It's a grieving process. It means saying goodbye to the way I've lived. Letting go and looking detached at my body is now a no-go. You can't let go until you know what's going on. Otherwise you have no ground at all'. Buddhism and meditation are also a source of inspiration. 'I also see the Buddha as a gender neutral person. It wasn't about boxes after his awakening. For me this is about the capacity of everyone to free themselves'.
