Contributions from seclusion
Joost van den Heuvel Rijnders
Theme month 'Get off your kisses! Engaged Buddhism': In this meditation we withdraw from the world for a while and isolate ourselves. After the meditation we return and we actively connect with the world again. Separating, going into retreat, is not an anti-worldly act, but a contribution to that world: we come back with attention, compassion and wisdom.
I enjoyed listening to and watching this episode. Took a while to start ;), but got more and more interesting. It also reminded me of the years when I worked as a lawyer in all penitentiary institutions in The Hague for the Bureau for Legal Aid. I found the contacts with the detainees extremely enriching. Nothing is as it seems. It's really wonderful that mental health care in prison also has Buddhism and mindfulness. I would like to (I say can't!) do this. Now I teach and offer mindfulness classes for our teenagers. Can also include rascals, but different ;) Thanks for this insight into special worlds and professions. I cannot imagine Buddhism without "commitment".
What a beautiful, fun and inspiring read! Indeed: keep up the good work!
