'Compassion for all AGES' will start January 27th

,

In these times of climate crisis and war, how can we deepen the practice of compassion and engage in a healthier relationship with ourselves, with each other and with the Earth as a whole? We would like to invite you to participate in the new Live Course of Erik van den Brink: 'Compassion for all AGES'.
Further in this newsletter, attention to the live lecture / book review by Tom Hannes.

'Compassion for all AGES' – Live Course

A lot has come our way recently and the word crisis is being used more and more often: climate change, disruption of ecological balance, extinction of plants and animals, depletion of raw materials, pandemic, war. More stress and burnout. Less confidence in politics, education, healthcare and the economy. There is instability in more and more areas of society. Is there still a viable future for our children and grandchildren?

How can we deepen our practice of compassion and interact more healthily with ourselves, with each other and with the Earth as a whole? Of course, there is no ready-made manual for this. We make a start by practicing, reflecting and exchanging with each other. We are inspired by ancient wisdom and modern science, by nature, art and culture.

This course wants to appeal to people in all their diversity and to reach across the differences in age, origin, orientation or philosophy of life. It's about LIFE in capital letters. We can't start it young enough, we're not too old for it and we never stop learning.

live tip

Sunday evening 11 December, Tom Hannes will give a lecture on the occasion of his new book: 'Why the Buddha loved lists so much'.

Sometimes it seems as if the whole of Buddhism consists of only lists: the three refuges, the four noble truths, the six worlds, the seven awakening factors… They emphasize the practical side of the Buddhist philosophy of life. The Buddha and the later Buddhist schools were clearly fond of it, but to us the enumerations seem rather dry, dull.
Wrongly, Tom Hannes thinks. In this book, he shows a surprising vibrancy of the Buddhist lists once we embrace them as practical life companions. With grace and a sense of humor he elaborates a selection of ten lists. This provides not only a fresh look at Buddhist philosophy, but also a testimony to how much the ancient teachings can tug at us to do its work, to be free and dignified people.
Tom Hannes tells lightly and uncompromisingly, accessible and thorough, oh so concrete and turning everything upside down.

UPDATE: Tom Hannes had to cancel this lecture / book review on Saturday afternoon due to flu. New date-time will follow soon.
